When you’re down in the writing trenches, it always helps to have a new plan of attack or fresh outlook — even a bird’s eye view. I’m here to offer that strategy or perspective, whether you’re struggling with the early stages of a manuscript, or working on a challenging revision of a later draft.
Bluebird Works offers several forms of editorial service, each with its own fee structure. As every project is different, fees may be adjusted according to individual project scope, and of course, adjustments to fees may be discussed if services are combined.
EDITORIAL SERVICES:
Editorial evaluation: includes my review and consideration of full manuscript, detailed editorial letter outlining the manuscript's strengths and weaknesses, suggestions for improvement, and follow-up phone conversation. Fee: $375 for picture books, $500 for chapter books, $750 for novels up to 200 pages in length.
Monthly retainer: includes four weekly editorial reviews, of up to 25 pages of your work at a time, along with a one-hour phone discussion of weekly pages, focusing on assessment and development of macro issues (character, pacing, theme, et al). Fee: $750 for one month, $1000 for two months, $1200 for three months, all formats.
Line edit: Close review and edit of full manuscript, focusing on micro issues (grammar, spelling, style, and consistency). Fee: $375 for picture books, $500 for chapter books, $750 for novels up to 200 pages.
Bluebird Works is happy to offer these services to projects with publishing potential. Feel free to submit the first 10 pages of your novel plus synopsis (double-spaced, please) or your full picture-book manuscript, and I’ll be glad to consider it, free of charge. If I don’t believe your work meets my standards of creative merit and potential, I’ll respectfully decline. If I believe your work is viable and think we’d be a good match, I’ll recommend an editing plan, and we can discuss fees based on the scope of the project.
Drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you.
The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings.
